It took 120-plus minutes, but FC Dallas came away with a 2–1 extra-time win over the Colorado Rapids on Sept. 3.
The Rapids opened the scoring in the 38th minute after Dominique Badji beat keeper Jesse Gonzalez to put the visitors ahead.
But a special moment of magic from FC Dallas midfielder Fabian Castillo changed the game around. Castillo received an outlet pass around the midfield line, then avoided two Colorado defenders who collided and rounded the linesman, all while keeping the ball in play. Castillo then snuck in a pass to Mauro Diaz for the tap-in equalizer.
In extra time, Maximilano Urruti beat Rapids keeper Zac MacMath from an impossible angle to seal the win for FC Dallas.
